
19th Century English Antique Lead-Glazed Earthenware Tobacco Jar & Spittoon
Large 19thC lead-glazed earthenware four-part tobacco jar, standing approx, 44 cm (17 1/4") with its original knopped lid and spittoon and raised circular base.
Understood to have originated from York, England, or the surrounding area. Similar examples have been found historically inscribed with "York" or with names and dates associating themselves with the local area. The factory remains unidentified.
With applied decoration throughout, including male head-and -shoulder busts, Scottish thistles, fruit and foliage, and a hand bearing a sheaf of corn.
Provenance - Unknown. Found within the UK.
Condition - No cracks. Please refer to the images. The raised rim of the tobacco jar does have a number of age related frits. This item remains highly decorative and displays well. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.
