18th-Century Style English Antique Slipware-Decorated Earthenware Tankard / Drinking Vessel, Attributed To The Dicker Pottery Of Sussex, England

This piece is attributed to the Dicker Pottery of Sussex, England, which operated from 1843 until 1956, and produced pottery wares of this form, along with other styles, in typical brown glaze over a red earthenware body. This piece bears no manufacturers stamp. Many pieces made by the factory were indeed unmarked.

With a flared rim over a baluster-shaped body, carry handle and raised circular base, this tankard is decorated in brown underglaze and yellow slip and bears the inscription "Obey Thy King."

Whilst this tankard is most probably late 19th-century-made and falls outside our usual remit, we had to acquire this item, as it has not only been made by a well known pottery but the design also harks back to an earlier period.

Provenance - Unknown. Found within Norfolk.

Condition - Good. No chips or cracks. Please refer to the images.

Size - Height 13 cm (5 1/8")
