17th Century German Antique Brass Adam & Eve Alms Dish Attributed to Nuremberg
A 17th-century antique brass alms dish.
German in origin. Attributed to Nuremberg, Germany.
Decorated throughout with repousse work and stamped decoration. The centre is decorated with a naive image of Adam and Eve in The Garden of Eden flanking The Tree of Knowledge and Serpent. Old Germanic writing can be seen above the heads of Adam and Eve and also on a band that provides the decorative inner border. The outer rim is decorated with stamped decoration and a rolled flange.
Condition - as per the images. Wear to the surface commensurate with age and some minor dents. There are some areas of thinning to the metal which has resulted in a couple of splits (please see the images). This charger does however display very well.
