Early 17th Century Antique Pine Decanter Box With Iron Bindings

A rustic early 17th-century pine decanter box in original, untouched condition. Retaining its dry patinated surface, original carry handle, and iron bindings, this evocative piece speaks to the utilitarian craftsmanship of the Stuart period. The iron lock plate and forged strapping suggest secure transport of valuable contents — likely glass or pewter decanters — in a domestic or tavern setting.

Date: Circa 1600–1620

Origin: England

Material: Pine with iron fittings

Features: Original handle, lock plate, iron bindings, dry patina

Condition: Excellent for age; structurally sound; untouched surface. The pine surface has wear. The iron strap work also has wear and minor age-related losses. The hasp is missing in part. A later male catch has been added to the interior of the lid to ensure that the lid still closes, albeit it no longer locks. This is a good-looking box. A further detailed condition report is available upon request.

Dimensions: Width 25 cm x Depth 22 cm x Height 24 cm (9 3/4" x 8 5/8" x 9 1/2")

A rare survivor of early domestic storage, ideal for collectors of 17th-century country furniture, iron-bound boxes, and English vernacular antiques.
