Mid‑17th Century German Antique Bellarmine Jug / Bartmannkrug, Circa 1625–1675 - Deaccessioned by The Bellarmine Museum, England & Illustrated in "The Bellarmine and other German Stoneware", Book 1, No. 23.

This authentic German stoneware Bellarmine jug (Bartmannkrug), dating to the mid‑17th century, is a fine example of Rhineland salt‑glazed pottery. The jug features a typical tiger‑glaze finish, with an elongated neck decorated by the iconic bearded mask motif.

Bellarmine jugs were widely exported across Europe and valued for their durability and distinctive design. This piece’s balanced proportions, strong glaze, and historical resonance make it an ideal addition to collections of antique ceramics, continental stoneware, and decorative antiques.

Provenance: De-accessioned from The Bellarmine Museum, Norfolk, England. Also illustrated in Alex Wright's reference book, "The Bellarmine and other German Stoneware", Book 1, No. 23. Mid‑17th Century (c.1625–1675). Germany, Rhineland.

Material: Stoneware with salt‑glaze, tiger‑glaze finish.

Features: Bearded mask at the neck, elongated form, and a decorative medallion with a rosette above a heart.

Condition: As per the images. With traces of restoration to the neck rim and carry handle. This has been done well.  The jug displays very well.

Dimensions: Height 21.6 cm (8 1/2")
